That lane at the side and the building behind the pub looks a bit like just up a bit from the Prince of Wales, where Simply Logo are, in recent times it's been a video shop and a car paints supplier, the building in the far distance would be The Mount or the Grange, Not sure the place I am thinking of is 3 storeys though. - am I on the wrong track? I did wonder about The Queens (Head? ) that's tall enough, it was called The Galley, but after recent refurb it returned to being called "The Queens" which I understood to be its original name, but could the area at the back once have been a bowling green? -Hence the name on the gable. But the left hand side of the building doesn't fit. and there's a tall chimney in the background, could that be over at the brickie? Oh sod it, I'm going fishn! |

| Great pics Tony.
Just looking for features on the prom that still exist. I can't make out many!
Infact only 1! Is the ice cream kiosk in the bottom right of the first image still standing?

I remember cycling through the Coronation gardens one day and spotted Mike Read playing tennis there! It was the day before a roadshow. On the day of the event, Shakin Stevens was one of the guests. Mike, who could pull out a mean Elvis impression when required, joined Shaky dancing to one of his hits onstage. The flimsy nature of the set, coupled with the fact that they actually played records back then, had the needle jumping all over the place. It was a big turnout as I remember! |

This first one's not too difficult , but can anybody remember the name of the fishing tackle shop next door the the travel agency?
Delighted to see this slot back Tony, nearly fell off my chair though, I rented that very shop for about a year around a dozen years ago and called it "Poachers" flogging theme decor/antiquey bits and a little art gallery on the top floor, (not the best idea I've ever had!) also sold a few old rods and reels from time to time. Before me it was pop poster and t shirt business, I didn't know it was ever a tackle shop. I was always on the look out for an old photo of the place, this is the best I've seen, pics usually show the junction and cinema but not "my" shop. when does this photo date from? |
