- HTM (Harry Meigh) is now my landlord in Rhuddlan.I remember the cash and carry being there, but can't remember the name. Here's a couple of videos I found on You Tube... Anybody who lived or visited Rhyl in the 50's or 60's will enjoy these.

| Love this stuff Tony, thanks for reviving it!
The Rhyl pic has to be before 1966 ( based on the pier length / appears to be people on it - closed in 66 ) but I wouldn't like to say how long before, the cars look pre 60s.
I'd forgotten the days of wearing a tie on holiday!
I hope the fellah who parked the motorbike and sidecar in the car park corner managed to get it out without doing his back in- no reverse gear!
I always imagined those mechanical elephants where much bigger. |

| Kev`s quite right, my granddad used to fish Rhos pier in the 1920`s, him and his mate lived in Church road in Rhos , and they used to feed the whole street with fish . He used to carry a couple of old brown and white photos in his wallet, till it was nicked by a pickpocket at a Stoke city home game we went to. One showed a catch of 3 bass over 12 pounds, with the biggest one 15 lbs 6 oz. all caught off the pier in one session, along with a few smaller ones, the biggest one was displayed in the local fishmongers in Rhos. The other one showed him and his mate holding up a broom handle with a string of cod all over 10 pounds, he said they had 40 that night, with the biggest 16 pounds. They also used to catch plaice over 5 pounds quite regularly, when you think that they only had cane rods and centre pin reels, with cuttyhunk line and catgut hook lengths it`s frightening to think what modern tackle could have produced. |
