Aberystwyth, An Evening of Light Entertainment
3rd time lucky? A change of tactics was called for,
instead of frozen lug I tracked down the fishmongers for some squid.
As work finished the forecast squalls and rain arrived. Conditions were going to be too rough for the lightweight Tidewater MPS I'd planned to hold in order to feel the pecks I'd failed to hook up with last week so fishing looked to be off.
Then 90 minutes after Low the rain stopped, the wind dropped and I was out there by the bandstand flicking 2 ounces of lead and a size 2 hook 3 up flapper just passed the breakers with strips of squid with fronds cut to create the dancing octopus look.
The shore is loose and gritty between the reefs and the best tactic seemed to be not to leave the rig out there too long because I think the incoming tide was burying the lead and extracting it again was pushing the light rod a bit.
Into a whiting almost straight away, 2 more followed, not huge but good fun on the light gear for an entertaining half hour until the weed became too much to haul in on the MPS.
Happy to call it an early night - 3rd time lucky!
