With nice weather forecast this weekend ,and Jodie taking kids somewhere for the weekend ..she asked me if I could just have my eldest lad jack for the weekend . So I finished work early fri dinner and picked the boy up and headed to shell island for the weekend .. Was he excited ,you bet !a bit of one to one with my eldest ,is a very rare treat !!
Got there at six o'clock set tent up ,lit fire ,few beers and chilled heaven ..
Have you ever tried get a teenager out of bed early hours lol ,got busy day got make the most of it !!

Sea was like a mill pound . So best bet was to fish the estury entrance with lures .plastic sand eel shads ,and spinners where thrashed at them for two hours .. Very very frustrating as the lures where getting covered each cast with very fine weed ,making them useless .should have had some weedless slugs they would have been spot on ..make it worse we could see bass after bass nailing the sand eel in very fast water ,you could keep seeing these bars of silver flashing all time ,some good size ones as well , jack was amazed !!
Packed up had bit of breakie and a brew then had an hour popping in the ebbing tide over the rough ground !!spoke to a lad from Liverpool called mike ,he only had one hand ,he lost is other to cancer .. He walked past with is fishing tackle ,and I got talking to him !.hes not on the forum but he's going look into it .. He inspired me , he says he fishes no prob with a multiplier ..I don't know how he could manage it . Very brave man with a great outlook on life .makes you think!!
Then got talking to a bloke called kev of the forum nice to meet you kev and your dog !
Chip of the old block .we blanked here as well ,but we didn't mind ,it was a great morning !
Dug some blowlug for tonight with kev ,jack played fetch with the dog .cooked us some tea then we got set up just before high at my reliable mark ! . Sea looked a bit flat ,the surf that had built up flattened of again , so scaled down to size ones for flatties and a bonus bass .. Long story short two hours here and we blanked .. Left kev to it ,thanks very much for the Largers kev . Nice to meet you ,see you there again in the nr future ..
Got back to the tent ,and the boy was shattered ,it had been a long day ,got some lug left ,and are tent was right by the estury ,and it had just started to ebb .do you won't a cast here jack before you go bed duckie I said ,yes please came a very tired little lad ,still keen ..I don't know who he takes after lol !!.first cast he was woken up in minutes with a good rattle and this little fellow on the end .. Was he excited ..you bet !!
Then quickly followed by two of these .he wide awake by now !!
Then he missed a stonking bite that rattled the rod very very hard . No doubt a bass but didn't connect . Time go bed little owddd it's one in morning and your knackerd but very very happy ..
Priceless weekend that no money could have made a difference ,not always about catching fish ,that's just a bonus !.i blanked by the way.. But I didn't because I was so happy for my boy !!
