I arrived in Stranraer fri night to stay at my bros house for a weeks fishing ,I will split this report into two reports rock fishing and surf fishing .. First job as I arrived a night in the pub with my bro and the old man ,happy days ..sat morning I was a bit worse for ware lol .. Anyway back to the fishing it didn't set the world on fire but by the end of my weeks holiday I was mega chilled out. When I first arrived I was like a coiled spring ...first session portlogan on the rocks ,then at night portlogan beach ,it looked the dogs dangle bits with a lovely surf running ,had good information that this beach was one of the best in this area for bass ,I must admit it looked spot on ..
When I arrived the only other car there was a motor home ,as I got my kettle on a big Scottish bloke came upto me introduced himself and told me he was from Glasgow is name was rich ,and he had a good fishing buddy with him called Chris..he new straight away I was a FEB ,other words what the scots nick name us "f**king English bas**rds" he said to me come in my motor home made us a brew ,and they where watching Henry gilby bass fishing DVD.i carnt recall people being this friendly back home .he told me bass up to 12 lb had been coming of this beach only the other week on poppers ..he then got is smart phone out and showed me a very impressive catch of fish of this stunning west coastline from bass ,to Tope, and cod fishing we can only dream of back home..
Back to fishing I fished hard from low up to high with good fresh blowlug baits I had dug
We all had no action till 1hr before high ,then it was like someone switched a swith on it was none stop coalie action
With these hard biting fish ,as soon as bait hit bottom they where on it ,giving very impressive bites for there size
We all finished fishing at three am loads of coalie between us and one doggie and one flounder thrown in ,no bass showed ,but we didn't care it was a good crack and the coalie kept us all busy..
My next bass session was on a beach called sandy head ,another very well known bass beach in this area .i dig my blow lug here as there is shead loads of the stuff here . It's an spooky place as it's going dusk as thousands and I mean thousands of crows roost here and land on the beach ,it's like something out if an horror film .when I arrived at the beginning of the week I was digging my worms hundred mile an hour by the end of the week I was diggin them at snail pace lol.the pace of life here is so much slower than back home ..
Big blank here ,but it was a nice chilling session fishing near the car with my brew and cooking my tea and watching the rabbits playing ,life doesn't get any better
Would have liked had another session at night on the beach ,but even I didn't fancy another session till 5 in morning ..third bass session right by my dads house ,loch ryan on the scar been told by very good local match man this the place to go ,two hour each side of high was the battle plan
Would have been better with crab on this venue as the crabs where very active ,big blank again but it was chilling watching the ferries go by .sometimes we get so focused on catching fish ,that we forget that fishing should be about relaxing,I must admit I am bad for this ,specialy when you've drove for miles and spent a fortune on fuel ,but it's different on holiday and I really enjoyed my fishing ,and remembered what fishing is all about ,my Scottish bass will have to wait till next year now ,I will put part two on tomorrow ,till next time ......
