Last night`s match saw 48 anglers from as far afield as Tyneside, Lincolnshire, Blackpool, and Merseyside taking part.
Bags comprised mostly of dogfish, a few decent sized whiting and a lone small huss.
Starting from low water the dogfish were there in numbers, this one came out after just a couple of minutes, helping young Vinnie Heath from Rhyl to the junior prize.
I thought I was doing well in A zone with 4 dogs and a whiting in the first hour and a half,
but as soon as the water got to the shingle, the fish turned off and the crabs came out in force, baits were stripped in minutes, especially in the shallow end of the bay where I was.
Further along towards the Little Orme they were having a lot more success, with the winning bag from C zone just behind the houses being 30-08-00 lbs for Karl Nangle fron Grimsby.
Second place went to Gary Hutson, also of Grimsby, with 29-08-00 from B zone, and 3rd was James Frasier of Holyhead with 21-05-00 from A zone.
the heaviest flatfish was a flounder just over a pound for Norman Dorling of Meliden, and the heaviest round fish was a huss of 2-14-12 for Karl Nangle.
In the last half hour before midnight, I had 3 good bites on whole sand eel. the culprits were these greedy little sods,
the baits were almost as big as them!
