Tell him to reduce his hook sizes if he wants to break his run of blanks.
Last time i bumped into Mehmet at splash point he was saying he fished same hooks all year all tides and all places he fishes.........................maybe they are all worn out from all the fish he caught over last year
He uses sizes 2, 1 or 1/0 usually,
Ironically the rig that caught was built by Mehmet, Mustad Aberdeen hooks (chemically sharpened and quite a fine wire) it is a 2 up clipped design; a cascade swivel fastening the bottom hook, the top hook clips to the bottom hook's cascade swivel, the bottom hook clips above the lead.
Bottom hook is a size 2 with small beads,
the top hook is a size 1 fully dressed up with
bigger beads, sequin and a small holographic blade, covered by my hand in the photo but this is the type of thing that the flatties have taken recently.
Coincidence maybe, but things have also picked up for me a bit after changing from coloured (greased weasle tapered) shock leaders to clear greased weasle shockleader - a conscious decision with more daylight about.
Bait was fresh lug, we also tipped with squid and sprat but it was un-tipped lug that did the business.
Looks placid on the pics but the SW wind was building to very uncomfortable levels, with a 16foot rod sometimes bouncing in the bigger gusts I quite often had to angle it low in the rest, heel to the wind. Thankfully weed only became a problem late on.
We were chatting and I never even saw the bite, but yer man did ( a single quick pull down)
I was sceptical when he told me there was a fish on but he wasn't wrong.
Stroll on those Bass, I want fish that fight back!
I need to change my mainline ready for them, my 16lb Sakuma Night Crystal has been on for a few trips out now and is showing signs of abrasion.
I'm toying with the idea of trying braid, maybe one of the clear braids, what do you reckon? Aahh! Bass memories of last Summer, from shallow water at the NB Gully...
