Had my first session of the year after the Mostyn Mullet using just bread fishing off the bottom. I start the session chumming the water as the tide goes out. Fishing 2 down 2 up I couldn’t get in my usual spot so tried in the bay where they keep the boats for the wind turbine. Was joined by Jimmy H his lad Jay and my mate Andy that’s never sea fished before. They were after anything that swims and fished off the stoney outcrop. I seen a few Mullet topping as the tide turned but no takers for me on this occasion. Better results on the bait rods Andy had 2 nice Rays as the tide turned. 4lbs 5oz and one at 3lbs 14oz and James had one at 5lbs 4oz I think Low was 18:50 1.9m Low LGD Fished 17:00 - 21:00

| Great stuff Dyl, we could do with a mullet report, especially one verified caught on garden peas _________________ we call it fishing not catching!

Nice going Dyl,glad to hear you are still at it. There's spot at Connahs quay at the end where you first come in,where I've seen loads of Mullet, they are in the side eddy slightly out of the tide race. I haven't been for a while, but I believe they have redone a slipway where a little boatyard is,which is right where the Mullet are. Once you hve gone under the bridge at the Quay, you turn left instead of right for the harbour wall, the slip is on the right. I think a mullet's diet needs thinking about, they don't take normal baits. I've thought of using an inline bubble float with a clear mono leader,The bubble float with water in it would act as a weight for casting, and the line and bait would stay just below the surface. (Sneaky tackle for sneaky fish, haha)

I've noticed Mullet hang about around outlets, and we all know what comes out of outlets. They seem to be veggie,a bit like Carp. Maybe a flavoured popup might work. They seem to be surface feeders,so a clear inline bubble float with a long leader/hooklength and a popup or flavoured bread might work. Or,as Paul suggests, peas.Chick peas are getting popular.(flavoured) Cooked Tiger nuts might work.I've fished for Mullet in N Wales,St davids and Falmouth, even in Brittany near the U boat pens.never caught one. The boat marina at Canarfon is heaving with them, but fishing isn't allowed. High slack water at Connahs quay would be favorite.

Cycled along the River Dee cyclepath this morning. There were four big mullet playing quite a way upstream near the Saltney footbridge, so they are definitely in there. Probably need to be groundbaiting a spot to have any success.
