| Sunday, tried the Point for an hour over High, nothing exciting going on.Then this afternoon my Castwatch bleeper went off, something special was happening down the harbour.. ..blue light flashing, heart pounding, chest wheezing, I cycled as fast as I could.. Sure enough there were 20 plus mullet cruising the pontoon, but they were ignoring the varied tactics of 3 frustrated anglers dropping bread/ lures on their noses But off the bank somebody was into a good rod bend..He’d only been there 10 minutes, 6lb line a very simple float and white sliced pinched to the hookshank and allowed to find the fish itself, not dropped on their noses.
I’d estimate it to be a 3 to 4lb fish, you’ll have to take my word for it, seems mullet are as camera crafty as hook shy, I was so excited for him I missed the fish out of the frame!I'm off to buy a loaf of bread, a camo shirt, a big hat and a wide angle lens

- Paul !!!!!!!!!!! what you doing , Man we needed that pic , mmmmmmmmmm , all a bit strange to me ,was this some kind of publicity stunt , this photo is of to the Labs Mate
The softly spoken, mystery "man with no name" ( I didn't ask!) said he had family in Rhyl and that's he's caught mullet all over the world, reckons he has a 100% success record on Rhyl mullet (though he's only fished for them twice !) I told him the site name and that I'd put the pic up, MATE ARE YOU OUT THERE? SPEAK TO US!!! we need your help! I saw him walking to the harbour a bit before, thought he was light weight camping or something, as he had a very compact set up, must have been a tele/travel rod, but he hadn't even got round to putting his landing net up when the fish took, must have been pretty well first cast. Played it for about 5 minutes. 6lb line. float but no shot I think. Float didn't look anything special, in fact it looked like those you see in the £1 shop! He also crushes the barb on the hook which I'd guess was about a size 8. Main tip was don't cast the bread directly to the fish Gordon, when's the Barbie? |

| Welcome Ian!!!!!!! I don't doubt for a minute that you beat all the odds and landed a Mullet. Unfortunately Notbads picture only adds to the urban myth Well done on managing the improbable and, if nothing else, had put the 'Mythical Mullet' firmly back at the top of the Sunny Rhyl Agenda. Keep it up fella's!!!!!! |
