| Bait - Lug Squid Hardback Date - 1st October 2021, daytime low Venue - New Brighton, free parking at fort perch Nearest tackle/bait shop - Bonners CH45 2JF Not much to report. Had a few hours here on a windy day. Four anglers fishing. Couldn't see bites due to the wind. I caught the most - just the one crab and a foul hooked shrimp. Good to be out though. Also handy for Morrisons so got pizza for tea. |

| Looks a bit flat not much to stop the wind trouble is on days like that sand gets in to everything. I bet the pizza was nice though. |

| Fished there on new years Day about 6yrs ago,too cold to bait the hooks up. As it got dark, the Tide came in behind me,and it was a photo finish to get back to the car. Anyone remember the old beauty contests in new Brighton? |

Actually, I saw a clip when I was looking into some history of the area recently. Honestly, I was searching the net for New Brighton history not for New Brighton beauties. From back when the world was black and white ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5Cs0mASY70&t=36s Lido has gone. Think it was where Morrisons is now. It was one of the largest pools in the world. https://peoplespool.co.uk/pools-we-love/local/new-brighton-bathing-pool Lots of history on the net around New Brighton for anyone interested. Here is some of the info I found. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Brighton,_Merseyside Surprised that the locals of the north accepted the naming of the area after Brighton in the south. The Welsh equivallent might be something like part of Cardiff being bought and renamed New Rhyl. https://historyofwallasey.co.uk/wallasey/new_brighton_2008/index.html http://wirral-history.weebly.com/new-brighton.html New Brighton tower was taller than Blackpool Tower https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Brighton_Tower |

| I'm glad you posted about New Brighton. Time fades memories, and it's so long ago I often wondered if what I remembered actually was a fact. In the late 50's my go to spot was the boating lake fishing for crabs with Mussels for bait. In 1966 I had a Hillman Minx, and used to travel from Manchester with my future wife and another couple nearly every friday night,to a new Brighton night club. The lighting at the Wallasey end of the Mersey tunnel was pretty bad,and I once almost turned up the railway tracks on my way to New Brighton. Happy days. The Hillman minx took me all around Anglsea on more than one occasion. Before the A55,it was an epic trip, and took hours. |

| A mate of mine was motorbiking up our local beach in to a headwind with blowing sand hiding the beach, he did not realize he had stopped until he fell over. |

I did the same in a sandstorm in Whyalla south Australia. There were open cast iron mines in the area, and the dust was red,the Aussies called it 'Bull Dust'(probably rusty iron dust) After a dust storm, all the roads looked brand new with a covering of dust, trouble was,you couldn't see the pot holes. |
