The golden orfe I mentioned may actualy have been rudd, the water was very clear, the only inflow from the water table in the sand. They were similar to Loggers but more gold on the sides and more red on the fins. I was only going on what I had been told. Very attractive fish there Dave, made more so by the location and a new place to suss out. Start felling by the pond, clear a patch and park the caravan there.

Had another hour there this evening but only managed to catch 3 All 3 were this size I tried different depths but in the end the bait was only 2 inches under the float and that's where I caught them Don't know what the difference was from the other day as I did everything the same Still good to wet a line though and I didn't blank

You could do with two rods, one for the surface feeders, and one with a cage/swimfeeder on it fishing a running ledger. The biggies are probably on the bottom,I doubt there are many cruising midwater.Pike will take lures,so you could try lures and spinners with the bigger rod for another way if you don't get lucky with the running ledger. Hurry up and catch a biggie.

You're sat on a fishermans dream there by the sound of it. If you are interested in finding out about puddle chucking, have a look at Totally Awesome fishing on U tube. The guy's called Graeme Pullen. He goes through the rigs and setups, and takes you fishing. He keeps the cost down for tackle, and talks straight. He does shore and boat fishing as well. I bet there are some biggies in that pond. A light boat rod will do for ledgering, but leave your bale arm open,or you may lose it.

The bait that is getting popular is prawns,(Tesco cheepo's will do) Rolled round a number ten hook shank. They are catching every species you could imagine. Some people freeline them, with just a swan shot about a foot from the hook. You can float fish them,or ledger them. You can chop the small ones into smaller pieces and chuck them in for groundbait/free offerings. I'd be surprised if there wasn't some big brown trout in there if it's fed by a stream. The Rudd are generally top feeders, you can tell a Rudd by it's bottom lip,it protrudes out further than it's top lip.(designed for top feeding) I suppose you will have to go home at weekend to get a bit more tackle, and with a bit of luck, the weather might get better. Can't wait to hear how you get on
