Caernarfon landing stage Tuesday 21 April , evening floodA quick half hour after work in Caernarfon,
not time enough to bother sourcing fresh bait
so settled for sending a couple of artificial shrimps zipping along the flooding Straits.
This tactic has previously rewarded me with mackerel, pollack and even a trout,
but this time instead of a 1oz lead I used a weighted Storm shad on the end.
Even with 200 yards of mono paid out I still felt the snatch and struck -
Couldn’t work out what was on the end though,
it didn’t feel like one of the many passing rafts of weed, it was heavier than one of the hundreds of small jellyfish smoke-ringing their way through the Straits, but it wasn’t wriggling like a fish either.
Turned out to be this critter and it’s pet rock.
Nice to have a catch weighed in stone.Aberystwyth Jetty Thursday 23 April, a lazy hour across evening High.Cut up a mackerel fillet ready, put the bits on top of an upright,
sent a 1 up 1down rig out to the Cardigan Bay doggie hotspot
and woofer number one was ashore inside 5 minutes.
Then out of the corner of my eye I spotted the seagull raiding party making off
with all my bait,
“Oh dear” I said….
Just enough bait still left on the hooks for another cast and doggie number two was
on the deck 5 minutes later.
Baitless now, so out came the shad again in the hope of teasing a bass as the light dropped..
-Wasn’t to be, but fun trying.
…Must explore the headland reef sometime.
