Rhyl Harbour Empty
PostSubject: Rhyl Harbour    Rhyl Harbour EmptyThu May 23, 2024 3:13 pm

I recently saw a post on Facebook from someone who had fished the Harbour and had done well- caught a few flatties and a nice bass. I know it used to be a popular place to fish by the Harbour pub however i never see anyone there these days as i drive over the blue bridge. It has got me thinking am i missing a trick by not trying there again. Do anyone on here fish it these days. Thanks

It has never looked as promising to me since the harbour was remodelled, there must be a lot of fresh water coming down the river at the moment!

Would like to hear how you get on if you give it a go!

I have often wondered how it would fish myself.
I think Flattie rigs with plenty of bling would be favorite.
If it's 'crab city' maybe a few floating beads 9" from the bait might keep them at bay. There could be a possibilty of Sea Trout coming in and out to spawn.
Anyone know what the river fishes like further inland?
I can't see the sandbanks in the harbour not having fish in them.
Maybe using freshwater cage feeder one hour either side of high tide would work, especially at the slack tide.
Personally I would use Black lug tipped with a strip of squid.
Be handy to know how it fishes, and good luck.

I do occasionally see people fishing the mouth (horton's nose side) over high. Don't know how they get on. Looks bassey, but last time I fished that area it was a major crab fest.

If you get chance to try it, I would be interested to hear what you find.

Out for a stroll today, tried to photograph showing the potential difference on depths of casting at High without first doing a recce at Low.

I couldn't get down and fish from where your pics show NB.
Last time I was in the harbour carpark it didn't look very convenient to fish off the harbour wall. (near the slipway)
I need to be close to the car because I'm shuffling about using a stick.
Can you think of any convenient spots?
Did you know that there's a Carp type fishing shop in Queensferry near Asda?It looks well stocked in the pics.
I think the sea fishing shop is next door.(Black lug etc)

Hi Valvebounce,

the channel can be reached at High from where the photos were taken at Low, though need to respect boat traffic through.
it of course.

You might find fishing off the prom over High at Splash Point is easier for you if you can park close enough ( Pay and Display) on the prom.

Colwyn Bay was a handy fish from the car location at High but I'm not sure if it is since the works along it.

Yes I know the tackle shop you mean, I've been in there.
