Hi All

Went down to the local beach Wednesday afternoon from work, low was 6:30pm and the sun was out so a few hours fishing was on the agenda.
Unfortunately the sea was flat calm with no breeze so set up one rod for flatties and one for a hopeful bass.
No Bass i'm afraid but did get 1 plaice and it was a good size but let it go back. Not too many bites at all but again a lovely evening.
Fished 3 1/2 hours of the flood back over the gulleys, and left just before 10 as up at 5 for work.

Took the bait pump for a try, had it a few years but never tried it out before, wasn't getting anywhere to start then kept chopping the tails off, then got a few huge yellows i think and thought this is it i've cracked it, but then it all went to pot again and didn't get another one so gave up.
Did get enough to fish with though which was pleasing, however the few bites i did get were all on the bought lug!!!!!!!.

Thanks for reading.

Rebsie.

I'm still trying to master my bait pump. Can be very frustrating. Often nothing for ages, and then get a worm a go for a few pumps which gives me some confidence I am doing the right thing. Definitely not something I could do to make a living.

Worm casts around the low tide mark are more likely to be blacks, so I pump more vertically there. At Talacre I also found places with razor, at the low tide, which you could gently pull out by hand.

Thanks for the report, Worm

I'm rubbish at pumping worm !
If you have had the pump a few years did you slacken the nut off before putting it away to ease pressure on the washer and is the washer still OK?

You can get Razors out by pouring table salt down the holes, usually after a couple to five minutes they squirt and pop up.A gentle pull is best so they don't snap.
The best time for black lug is the low tde after a big high tide.
They have two holes and form a 'U' shape. It's a knack I've never had the patience or energy for.
Nice post.

I have seen some vids of people doing that. Didn't need to do that at Talacre though as the top of the shells were visible anyway.

I can't see that being usual.I wonder if the Dee pollution just below the sand/mud (half a shovel deep) is preventing them from burrowing deeper.
On the report the PH of the subsurface was the same as bleach.
If they can't burrow,we probably will not be seeing them in that area soon.
It's certainly food for thought MM.
