I have de- elastictated the top section of my whip.(it wasn't elesticated when I bought it)
Usually, the length of line is about a foot shorter than the whip, the reason being that you can bring the fish in at about chest height.
With the elastic on it's fine for tiddlers, but anything heavier and the stretch on the elastic causes the fish to be brought in too low. (out of reach)
I've decided to use 8lb to 10lb green coloured line, with a hook length of about a foot of fluro carbon.I just can't see the line if it's clear line.
The advantages of a whip for me is that I don't need to cart around loads of tackle.Just bait, groundbait, spare line hooks and floats.(and my trusty umberella)
All the lot except for the whip fits into a shoulder bag.I've converted a lightweight green plastic garden chair to use instead of a heavy seat box.
