I am looking after a house for a relative in Runcorn. Found there is some access to fish into the Mersey from Wigg Island. Gave it a try for a couple of hours today. I went armed with some frozen mussel on size 2 hooks. Had a few good bites over high but no connect. I suspect eels or flatties.
Only needed a short cast for the main channel. Surprisingly strong tide pull when it started going out - I needed a grip lead but only 3oz. I will try here again sometime, although in honesty it was not the nicest of places to fish. The plus is it did not cost me much of anything extra in fuel to get there as I was in Runcorn anyway.
Didn't see the tide bore but there can be one

Unusual tide chart - the tide comes in much quicker here than it goes out so don't get there too early. I did - so went and did some jobs at the house and came back a couple of hours later.

Little bit of history for anyone interested. Wigg used to be chemical plant. Mention here of mustard gas production

And cyanide

But now cleaned up and opened to the public as a nature reserve.
