Brook trout Empty
PostSubject: Brook trout   Brook trout EmptyWed Nov 07, 2018 9:28 am

We have a little brook at the back of our house... I read it had no fish in it due to a leak upstream a few years back, I was told by a guy who lives in the area he had caught some 3lb chubb in it recently. Not wanting to make the trip to Wales or the Mersey we gave it a try, fresh worms were the bait of choice. We found a couple of sections that were around 2 feet deep, in most places it was barely a few inches deep.
We caught plenty! a few Chubb and Gudgeon but mostly Brook Trout. Really nice colours on them too.

We are going again this weekend to find some deeper sections and try our luck.

What a great spot, I doubt it gets much fishing pressure. how much of it can you get at?

Hi Rod,

Loads of it, its not a long brook. Ill let you know how we get on this weekend in some deeper sections. A lot of it you can walk across its that shallow in places so we are going to walk the length of it (well almost) with a 6 foot rod and try our luck.

There's a little river near me in Manchester,It fishes like your brook, had some nice Trout out of it,and some huge Chub, and plenty of minnows.
I fish with a 16's hook with a maggot on it,that's tied to a number 8 hook(in the bend.)
I catch a minnow on the maggot, and then transfer it live onto the bigger hook.
I use a bucket with an aerator in it(battery)and keep live minnows in it.
Those big Chub and Trout love live bait.
I trot it with a bubble float, with the minnow just off the bottom so it can't hide on the bottom.
The Chub are easily spooked,so I stay off the skyline and move around nice and quiet.
When you think you are going to Blank,a minnow never fails.
I've noticed that little rivers with minnows in them produce bigger trout and Chub, and came to the conclusion that they grow bigger if they have a live diet.
