Over the sea to Skye Empty
PostSubject: Over the sea to Skye   Over the sea to Skye EmptyThu Jun 29, 2017 10:26 pm

A year has past by and Tina and I couldn't wait to head up to The Isle of Skye and join Gordon and Angie again on their private boat Star, a 90 year old herring drifter - a mere 25 years in the refurbishment and never ending!

The weather was very rough on the 500 mile trip up and had been for several days but xc weather promised a day of respite and wasn't wrong!

View from our bedroom window included Gordon and Angie's boat on her mooring

John joined us to  help crew and to try and break a run of recent blanks when all about him had been catching

The Sound of Sleat offers very deep water but the tactic was to drift with feathers along the rocky drop off

Tina was first in with a small pollock

A few drops later and everyone was into mackerel a plenty,
except John!

There were some good ones around too!

All too soon 5 hours afloat flashed by and it was time to head in for an evening involving several  pints of generous local hospitality and gentle ribbing of John before heading back to Rhyl the next day

We can't wait to get back there!
