Well first session of 2015 finally out of the way and the blank avoided, just!! Seeing and reading some of the reports from Saturday was a bit of a concern but decided to get out no matter what. Set of from Manchester at 9:45 and got to pensarn just after 11. First stop bait. Noticed Pensarn tackle and bait was closed (Is this a permanent closure or just a Sunday?)
Rod set up with 2 hook flapper and lug and out she went. Thought I'd start close in then work my way further out as the day goes on, so 20-30m was the first splash. Wind started off north westerly. First cast bang went the rod tip and my quick and excited reactions struck into it. 7 turns stop to make sure the fish is still on. Yep still there so reel in. Just before the shore line, the line goes slack!! DOH!! This was to carry on for an hr. Even stopped striking. Lug kept coming back shredded or in half. Just after high the wind changed to a South easterly not looking good. Kept in the 30m range. While my rig out I decided to pre bait a 3 hook flapper for a quick change over. Rig prepped and ready. By this point the wind had picked up some.
Start reeling in with a little resistance to start. Not expecting anything on the other end. RESULT!! Nicely hooked on the lip was a dab. Blank avoided definitely put a smile on my face. Persistence paid off.
The wind picked up even more by now and my rod was very nearly over hand it not been for some nibble foot and hand work!! The three hook flapper was last cast and came back untouched. Packed up and back on the road for 2:45. Roll on next session hopefully not a long wait!!
