| This bit in the Mail on Line had me laughing,
"The fish was at first believed to be a yellowfin tuna and a local fisherman was allowed to take it away to cut up and use as bait."

| We have Pacific blue fin tuna off the west coast of New Zealands south island in the winter, usually caught when deep sea trawlers are lifting their nets. A similar size to the Scarborough ones. A bit out of my financial league. Further south off Fiordland they get Southern Blue fin about 100 lb average. We used to have a summer yellow fin fishery but it has been hammered by pacific longliners and drift nets and are rarely caught now. Plenty of Albacore and Skipjack offshore in the summer around 6 to 10 lb, good fun if you can get out. Interesting about the ones caught off Ireland, probably more there if more effort was put in. |
