I was in our Dolgellau office the other day and the girls were telling me that with the price of gold rising so much there are plans to re-open a local gold mine and some locals have even been panning the Mawddach Estuary hoping to make a quick fortune.

This morning I took a walk to see how the Rhyl Harbour works are coming along and I got to thinking;
the headwaters of the River Clwyd also rise far up in the hills, it seemed likely to me that any gold carried downstream would be deposited where the river meets the tide.
Could the construction works have disturbed long since buried deposits?
With a little beach combing I was able to improvise a "pan" and got to work.
I can't wait for Smouts to open on Tuesday!
