Watched a vid by Nigel Farage last night,he says that Tuna are increasing in numbers around the coasts. They are spreading from Cornwall, right up the west coasts, and up into Scotland, plus in the North sea.
Apparently they were plentiful years ago,and film stars etc.were coming over from the USA to fish for them.
Farage is a boat fisherman himself.
I watched a vid by The fishlocker (John) on utube,he was fishing on his boat out of Falmouth,he caught two Tuna, both approx.350lbs.
It took him over an hour to land each fish.
There are of course restrictions on commercial catch numbers, but Farage says if catch and release is brought in for them, there's a good chance sports anglers will be allowed.
There are rumblings that EU fish factory ships will be banned in our waters,so here's hoping.
Obviously, what brings the Tuna in is having bait fish to feed on,so there must also be an increase in their numbers also.
Who is going to be the first one to catch a Tuna out of Rhyl, watch this space lol!

It is the old conundrum, if you don't target them you are unlikely to catch them. If the link below does not work, look up " Waihau Bay, bluefin tuna"

https://www.bing.com/search?q=waihau+bay%2C+bluefin+tuna&form=ANNTH1&refig=c828d2cc8e844dd590dafe341b52fb9d&sp=-1&pq=waihau+bay%2C+bluef&sc=0-17&qs=n&sk=&cvid=c828d2cc8e844dd590dafe341b52fb9d

This is a run of migrating tuna heading north and are around for about a month. During the winter here they are found off our South island west coast following the trawlers targeting huge schools of hoki. While most fishing in NZ for bluefin is by trolling lures, following the hoki trawlers they throw dead hoki that drift down near the trawler side where the offal is released.

Smaller ones are found off Fiordland, during the summer months here.

The internet says the southern bluefin range between 40 and 55 degrees South.

Off Newfoundland Canada huge Atlantic bluefin are caught in shallow water chasing herring.
