| Hi all, went down the beach yesterday to pump some lug. The washer in my pump was knackered, I’ve sent for silicone ones off e-bay. I would be greatful if you could tell me you put just one washer in at a time. How durable are these cheap silicone washers.

Slackening the wing nut off after use will prolong the life of it, although its a pain if you've wired the nut to prevent losing it. Never quite got the nack of pumping myself though. You may know can make your own silicon washers from diy silicon, ideally though you need an old pump you can cut up to use as a mould or find some tube the same bore. |

| Being an old skinflint I make my own washers from an old flip flop All you need to do is push the pump into the flip flop to make an impression then cut it out and make a small hole for the rod to go through and hey presto Don't forget to add a washer either side of course |

| Good idea,I was looking at a camping foam mat I've had for years the other day(never used it) It's made of the same foam as flip flops. I have an old leather horse girth belt I use for all my washers, pumps, air rifles, paraffin stove and lights. The leather thickens up when it gets wet and makes a great seal. |
