Hi. They go a bit soft and are then difficult to hook, if you keep them frozen it helps, they will soon thaw in the water.
Try whipping on to a lug with bait cotton.
I understand that blanching a fresh razor in boiling water toughens it but haven't tried it myself.
If you just tip with a sliver of razor ( it worked for me yesterday) and latch it behind a bait clip it stands a chance of reaching the water.
So far as how many are about is concerned, I've enjoyed enough success to stay interested but I put the hours in, you might be lucky, only one way to find out!
My codling yesterday was full of razor, but Mehmet's the day before was empty.
Given a choice of one bait on Rhyl beach its lug, lug and lug though.
