Four boats fished the fourth leg of this years boat league in the Straits today.

We had hoped to launch from Colwyn Bay but with a bit of a surf on the flooding tide and the high risk of losing a vehicle or worse if conditions were no better at the end of the match it was decided to head for Moel Y Don and the comfort of the Menai Strait.

Everyone has their own favourite marks in the Straits but with todays flatfish pool being a triple roll over of £37 it would be worth trying for a flattie for half an hour so this was on the agenda for us. king

We started off very slowly with a Dog to show from our first couple of marks.

The “ experienced “ crew aboard Rosea were close by to keep an eye on us. farao

All eyes on Roger with another weed fish. lol!

We added species here and there, and I was fortunate enough to find a specimen Flounder to give me a great chance of the flattie pool, all be it while fishing for a different species entirely.

We had a good hour where we added 4 species in quick succession and spent the last couple of hours in an area off Pwllfanogl.

I was made up to get species number 30 for the year here in the shape of a Rock Goby. cheers

Adam then had a better Goby which turned out to be a Black Goby which was his 33rd of the year. Rolling Eyes

Close on his heels I soon bagged number 31 with another Black Goby. cheers

All too soon it was time to head homewards. The forecasted drop in the wind didn’t happen in the Straits so its just as well we didn’t choose to fish the Bay. No

Back at the weigh in, Frank and Bobs decision to head towards Puffin Island to fish proved to be a good one, with 12 species including 1 specimen in their match winning bag. They had a Dab in their bag too which was unfortunately beaten for the pool by my Flounder. Laughing

The specimen flounder was part of our nine species for second spot and Rosea were third and Lady M fourth.

Im sure Gary will give the correct points scored etc when he puts a reply on this. study

We are back out in a fortnight so hopefully we can get out from the Bay as I still haven’t had a Grey Gurnard or a Tope yet and they will help me towards my new target of 35 species for the year.
