Sunday 18th January
There’s nothing like that first coffee of the day
and reading the newspaper on a Sunday morning
- especially when the coffee is from your flask
and the paper is wrapped around some lug from Geoff’s.
On Saturday I’d stopped by for a chat with Mehmet who’d been hauling in clumps of weed near the green triangles and so decided on a slight change of venue today in the desperate hope of breaking a run of blanks and catching my first fish of 2009.
East of Splash Point, known to some as “Not Bad Gully.“
Would it be “No Bloomin’ Good” ?
Half an hour before Low,
within seconds I was into weed.
I pushed the butt cups as high as they’d go and kept as much of the line out of the water as I could to try and beat it but the weed was persistant, every 5 minutes I had to clear another washing line.
Eventually as the inner gully filled and leaving it out there a bit too long I was almost relieved when the leader knot parted and I decided to do without a shockleader and go for gentle casts into the inner gully, which proved to be weed free.
Time passed,
I repeated the mantra…
Pleeease just one fish, just one and then I’ll go, pleeeeease, just one little fish…..
