Did my Christmas Shopping, I'm pleased to say the pound shop wasn't too busy!
With -3 forecast I was pleased to risk a whole quid on some thinsulate gloves.
Joined Mehmet in front of the Hydro 2 hours before High last night, it actually felt quite mild
( inside my floatie at least)
He was 25 minutes, two casts and 2 codlettes in, then his number one reel blew up
giving me the chance to draw level with 2 chunky whiting in 2 casts.
The fish were about all the way up and over high as were the shooting stars.
Water got a bit scummy at high,
Teased by a lot of little rattles that wouldn't hook, but persevered with bigger hooks and wished for a fully fledged cod.
Around 10 whiting and codling for Mehmet, around 10 whiting for me plus that lonesome dab
that's been working so hard on this beach this last couple of weeks.
Most of mine took either fresh or frozen lug tipped with a diamond of whiting flesh.
My chunkiest whiting told us what the little rattles were all about when it coughed this up,
photo not too good, but it has a strong blue tint to the scales, especially on the top, herring.
-yes it did go back out on the hook!
Nearly packed up just after high but we found a second wind courtesy of a whisky in the coffee and kept going for 3 hours down.
A 5 hour session that passed as fast as those meteorites, but by 11pm with lamp
batteries fading, a sharp frost forming and fatigue setting in it was time to go.
