I think it is 1030am.

It may be over low so there may not be the option of a drop off.

We could tow Sinbads kayak out with us and you could use that as a means of return Smile

So, did anyone achieve all their targets for 2009?

I ended up disappointed with mine. I didnt get a double, but did manage a couple of bigger fish than i usually catch with a Conger early in January from Llam Carw which was just under 7lb.

I had fun on the boat trips during the warmer months, and although i didnt get anything massive, i was happy with this Huss which was about 7.5lb.

My target changed during the year and i decided i would try and catch 30 species for the year.

With 2 days left im on 28 and although im sure i could get another 2 if i tried, i just cant be bothered!
There are a few "easy" fish which i should have had but havent including Thornie, Bass, Coalfish and Shanny but ill be back with more enthusiasm in the new year.

Ive had a few new species this year including Tope, all be it tiny!

Back Bream

and Red and Grey Gurnard, all thanks to some fantastic and memorable trips on Suveran II

and a Goldsinney Wrasse from Amlwch Breakwater

I won the clubs Winter league early in the year, and it looks as though ive managed to win a couple of trophies that ive been after for years, for the most specimens both inside and outside club waters.

Tom set me a couple of targets for him this year, although he won both Junior titles ( Winter league and Summer League ) he really wanted to catch a Bass and a Dogfish this year.

His first Bass came in one of the junior summer league matches at Benarth,

which he followed up with a smaller one from Splash Point.

A trip to Tan Lan in September resulted in plenty of Dogs including his best fish to date which weighed 2-09-08 and puts him in line for several trophies from the club,

So all in all a great year, great times with great people new friends and old, and im looking forward to much more of the same in the next 12 months!

Happy new year everyone and tight lines for 2010.

Great question Kevin,
2009 just flew by!

I set out to 1. "catch that special fish"
and 2 to "catch a mullet"

Well, my biggest ( 50cm ) bass at a flooding Splash might not be that impressive on paper but the hyper excitement of a dropped take, rapid re-cast
and then nicking it again, beaching it two sandbanks out and dashing back with my prize through a rip with seconds to spare before my waders overtopped did it for me.

I didn't catch the mythical mullet, but I was there when "the angler with no name" landed one, even though I didn't quite get the evidence framed on camera! ( I reckon those mullet put spells on cameras too)

My favourite ambition of the year was actually vicarious though - Mike's annual shore
hound hunt! Well chuffed I was there!

2010 ambitions?
I'll settle for more of the same but I'm hoping for something involving distant waters and a travel rod

I reckon its more about the fishing - the things you see and the people you meet than the fish you catch.
Whether you catch, blank or just watch, at the end of the day Sunny Rhyl never let's you go home without something to remember

My plan will be to fish Kinmel Bay on the morning low tide (7.35 ish Kinmel Bay time) in the hope of an elusive Smoothound, Ray or even a baby Tope.
They are all there in August and with such a big tide, suitable bait, and a bit of luck, they should be a possibility

Well, isn't it great when a plan comes together Smile

That Smoothy was a definate highlight for me.

Closely followed by a PB Ballan of 3lb 9oz from the Holyhead Breakwater. Caught on my Cherrywood Spinning rod, on 2009's superbait - Live Prawn!

The 3rd of January provided possibly my favourite sunset of the year.
Kinmel Bay beach was again the venue.

But inevitably, it was more about getting out there than catching fish.

Highlite for me this year was getting out more and catching more.

But the Best thing in 2009 was meeting up with most of you, and still a few more to say hello to.

All the very Best for 2010.

Hope those rods bend over even more.

Steve..
