| Venue - River Mersey Duration - 4 hrs Bait: Frozen Lug, Frozen Squid Boat - Suveran II Skipper - Simon Parry
You'll have to forgive m y typing in this report. It's 8hrs after getting back home and the tips f my fingers are still tingling! Cold was not the word today!!!!
Waiting in the lock of Liverpool Marina we commentated on how the weather wasn't a cold as predicted. We soon changed our minds when the lock gates parted and we entered the River ersey.
The biting Easterly wind hit us and signalled that it was going to be fresh to say the least!
The baiting up was the worst bit! Loading 4 still forzen worms and a whole frozen squid onto a pennel rig meant that the glves had to xcome off. With your finger tips loosing all feeling, it was enevitable that you would stab your selv with a big 4/0 hook with each push of the worm. Cast out and gloves back on, the stinging started! Then the throbbing! Pins and needles next, until finally after about 20mins, movement and feeling had returned. Tiem to reel in and bait upo again!!!!!!!!
Simon had the parafin hob constantly lit in the wheelhoudse. Everynoe and again, we would huddle around this and help speed up the warming procwss. We all returned today without a hair on our hands
The fishing wasn't fantastic today. Whiting wee showing in good numbers.
A good amount of Dabs were landed.
Mpst of us were using the big baits though, in the hope of a Codling or 5. Sadly, teh were to elude us today.
At 10:03am the sun made an appearance.
At 10:07am it disappeared never to show it's face again.
A few mre Dabs an Whiting and our time was up.
An interesting experience! Quite a contrast to fishing on a flat calm summers day, catching Mackerel for fun. THe screeming reel of a Tope run amd the pull of a 8lb Pollock. Shorts and T-Shirts, with the coolbox full of iced water to keep the hydration up.
Strangely though, just as enjoyable!!!!!!! Despite everything, a couple of trips on the Mersey still form a vital part of the the fishing calendar.
It'll orobably be next Winter before we are there again. I can't wait!
Happy dAys!!! |

- I've used hot water bottles before now, they're cheap to buy, don't take up much space, don't weigh anything and as long as you've got a stove and kettle they last all day.(you can also just semi- inflate them and then they make a cracking cushion to sit on).
Genius!!!!!! Thanks Tony. |
