| Hi all, sorry if this question has been asked before. Can anyone recommend a 7000 sized reel for me, was looking at a Penn Surfblaster but the lads in Taskers said Penn had gone down the nick since pure fishing took them over. I only really fish Pensarn,Talacre and the Arches so casting isn’t that strenuous. Thanks for your help Paul |

| Pre-dating the Surf blaster I had a Surfmaster and was disappointed with the lack of longevity, ( similar story to what you have been told when I contacted a specialist Penn reel repairer) I replaced it with a "big" Shimano Fixed Spool. ( can't recall the size off the top Must be 10 years ago now, its barely needed oiling, it holds way more line than I can cast but with fast flood beaches its great for opening the bail arm and moving back without a recast and has the guts in the gears to break out and retrieve a grip lead without a problem.
10 years ago it cost me about £150 which at the time was more than double the Penn Surfmaster but I don't regret a penny of it.
DAIWA seem to be well regarded in coarse reels but I have confidence in the Shimano shore side.
Let us know how you get on |

| You are welcome, its Daiwa not Diana but I don't think you'll find a big enough Diawa. Manufacturers seem less inclined to include a spare spool in some expensive reels than they used to be I've noticed.

| Must confess I have not heard of Yuki but the Yuki Sagarra Level 7000 Salt (a snip at around £125) looks the business. The sort of reel notbad might use when using langoustine for his bait.
Had plenty of Shimano and Diawa stuff myself over the years and been happy with it. |

| I've had a fixed spool 7000 Shimano for ten years, like Notbad says, they are bombproof. I have 30lb braid on mine at the moment. I also have a Shimano lever drag multiplier,Shimano are dependable. 30lb to 50lb braid works well with a mono leader. I don't go less than 30lb braid because of wind knots. |

| I use an Akios cobalt 80 great reel for mixed fishing, it`s been replaced on the market now by the R8 and R10, I`ve heard great reports about both of those.
