Luckily it’s not that difficult to pump black lug given the right tide near Gronant. I was just wandering if blow lug or rag worm, could be dug nearby. Just enough for a fishing session, I’ve only seen a few scattered casts near Barkby Beach.

You can keep blow lug alive in a bucket of water after you have dug them.
I usually buy black lug.
If you want to dig black lug,the best time is at low tide after a hightide.
That's when the tide has gone out the furthest, the further out you go,the better chance you have for black lug.(on average)
I don't know the method for Rag worm,or where to look for them.
The only times I have used lug,we bought them in a bucket with water in from a shop near Morecambe.
The plaice are due soon,I use black lug tipped with a thin sliver of squid, and coloured bead for plenty of "Bling"
Like Dave says, pumping them saves your back. lol!

Thanks VALVEBOUNCE

I normally pump my own black lug but being a lazy sod, I won’t get up at silly o’clock to catch the tide. More often than not I end up buying it.

I don't know if you know about the tides, but they change by just over 1/2 an hour every day.Sooner or later a big low will line up with later in the day.
I use a running ledger with a 2ft trace for plaice and flatties, too long a trace floats up off the bottom.
A couple of mates at the Prestatyn boat club swear by black lug for silvers.
There's a stretch just after the club from where you are with a rough bottom, they fish it when it's too rough for the boats.
I put the running ledger on the main line first, then a bead, then a clip or swivel. The trace clips onto that. The bead stops the ledger getting jammed on the clip/swivel.
Have you checked where the gulleys are near you at low tide?
That's where the fish cruise up and down.
I am probably telling you what you already know, sorry if I am. lol!

A lad I worked with who lived a long way inland and had no idea about tides had been to Red Wharf Bay with his family several times and the tide had always been out but he rang me once to ask what had happened as the whole beach was under water Exclamation
I really thought it was a wind up but he was quite serious Rolling Eyes
Just shows what we take for granted could turn into a life or death situation for others Shocked
