Easter monday at the Shelly beach ramp can be hectic, launching is OK, but parking on a fine day not so good. With a dawn low tide, many of the bigger boats would need the tide in a bit as the channel edge is a bit soft
I only took one fish picture, mainly for the species hunt, a red gurnard
I caught 2 snapper of about 2kg and another 8 that were legal takers over 27cm, but also plenty of smaller ones, but only kept 4.
The gurnard was caught in a 9m hole but the snapper in under 2m of water by the mangroves on the far side of the channel.
Retrieving the boat just after high tide was easy only the trailer wheels wet.
The trailer park had been overflowing earlier with trailers parked 200m up the road.
April is about the end of the snapper season in the inner harbour, they will be replaced by kahawai and gurnard, however I have not tried the shallows in the winter, but must give it a go, if there does not work, there are other good winter spots to try.
