Anybody tried the 7ft Abu Garcia 15lb boat rod? I don't want too "Beefy" a rod,and want a bit of bite indication. I've got a couple of composite rods but they are a bit heavy. With the boat only being 14ft,I'm thinking a short lightweight carbon rod would be easier to use. I'm thinking of getting a matching pair for long tiding.

Cheers Dave, thanks for the info. With the trend these days being "fishing light" I am thinking maybe the 15lb carbon would be ok for Tope and rays plus whatever else comes along. I've got a few rods that would be ok,but they are mainly composite and f/glass. The rods would fit in the inset holders in the splashwell,(so no rods underfoot on the deck) I've made up a couple of matching rods (6ft) that will fit in the "drain pipe"rod holders that are within reach of the seats when I turn them back to front. I need to keep the deck clear underfoot. Abu Garcia is usually dependable like you say,I've had a multiplier for years that's still works great.

Boat length is significant, mine is 15/16 foot with a cuddy and a rod of more than 8 foot long isn't comfortable on it.

Hi Paul,I thought that would be the case. The boat has some room behind the seats, but it would soon clutter up I think. It's got decent handrails and not a bad height from the deck. It's a pull start,so I need the space as clear as possible. Rods leaning on the gunnels/rails would be too restrictive.
