Our annual cork trip came round last week,
We arrived late thu afternoon, a quick couple of beers in the longpoint was in order after travelling most of the day.
We booked into the accommodation unloaded the jeep and boat then Met up with Adam, jay and Mike at murphs tavern up at east ferry for a bite to eat.
The following morning we dug some rag ready for the comp and took the boat out for a spin up to cobh to have a look a massive cruise liner that had docked.
We had a hour or so fishing and picked up some fresh macky, the pub was calling so we headed back in, Brenda at the pub lit the bbq and we all met up for a burger and beer, the night became a blur and before we knew it we were up again in the hope of going blue shark fishing, we got some fresh macky and headed off shore but the further out we got, the rougher it became and our plans came to a halt, we stopped and had a fish around ling rock instead, we had a variety of fish before we came closer in to get a bit of shelter.
Sun, day 1 of the comp, the forecast was good so we planned to hit ling rock and get the offshore species we needed, the weather man must of been p####d, no sooner had we done the 12 miles out to lings the wind picked up and the sea got rough, rough enough for us to head back to shore, we fished a ray mark 1/2 out and picked up a few fish to get us going, including a bonus brill!
Day 2 we had a lot less wind which meant we could push out and get 14 species added to our total.
Day 3 was spent inside the harbour getting the species we needed, The evening was spent in the pub as Brenda did a curry night which was washed down with plenty of ale as the next day was a rest day because the weather was supposed to blow up a bit. Hangover day was spent chilling in the house until the evening before we met up for the annual steak night at rossies pub.
Day 4 and the last was going to be close, a lot of boats were tied on 23 species, we had a plan and for a change it went to plan, we ended the day adding another 5 for a total of 28 species which won us the comp. A late night early morning followed at the longpoint to celebrate!
