I was only saying to Logger the other night that for all the small fry not many people seem to catch a "proper" Herring.

Nice surprise catch. So when is the herring season? I thought it had gone earlier in the year.

Is it me,or does there seem to be a seasonal change in the fish being caught? Logger said there were thousands of white bait and Joey's at Old Colwyn last week. Is this normal for this time of the year or is it the usual pattern? Stevo had a good session on the Mersey the other night,Whiting etc,are they in early?

| Not really a surprise as they swim with the Mackeral shoals. There are just a lot more Mackeral. There are places you can go and target Herring off the shore in the winter months if you know where. They are caught off the boat all summer when Mackeral bashing and have been for years.
Yes, it is you. The water is still warm so the summer species havent moved off and the winter species have started moving in so there is an overlap. Its a little longer than usual but nothing alarming as the season started late this year.
It isnt a shock that there were plenty of fish in the Mersey last week, just a shock Steve caught them!

Thanks for the info,I didn't know herring and mackerel swim together. Like you say,the season started late and is going out late, and there is an overlap. I'm learning Haha
