With reports of a few Bass from the mark on our doorstep and a decent evenings weather, the Joneses had a short session at the Notbad Gulley last night.
Freshly pumped lug and my new pulley pennels were the weapons of choice for me and Tom. My targets were a Bass or a Weever for the species hunt. Tom was just hoping to catch while Terry didn’t want to miss out so met us on the beach not long after we had arrived.
We were only on our second cast as the tide turned. Fairziff had come down to see how we were doing as he passed on his regular castwatch shift and as we stood and chatted, Tom had a good knock.
We ran over to his rod and he picked it up and waited for it to go again, which it did almost instantly. While he was reeling in, I wasn’t sure whether he had hooked the fish but as it got into the shallows it started running sideways and Tom walked backwards to expertly beach his second ever Bass.
Smiley faces all round once he realised what type of fish it was.
Terry was next in with a Weever, my other target
and he followed this up on the next cast with a Dab.
Time was running out before I had to head to work, the light was fading by now and I was staring a blank in the face.
Terry had a crackoff ( using a fixed spool!!! )
so we wound in our last cast of the night.
I tackled down Toms rod then wound in my own and I was relieved to find a small Whiting had impaled itself on my hook.
I must have missed the bite while sorting Toms rod but it saved the blank so I didn’t really care.
Time for work but a very nice couple of hours spent at a mark we don’t fish nearly often enough. We will be back!
