Parkgate is a farm in Cumbria with it's own pond which was only dug out last year and through a friend I was invited to fish it when ever I liked but until today I've not had the chance, I only managed to go today because of our move up north and everything was ready to go by lunchtime but I didn't fancy sitting in the Friday M6 traffic so what better way to kill a few hours
Parkgate is set in amongst some stunning scenery
First cast and I didn't have to wait long for the float to disappear... fish on
A nice palm sized Rudd followed by another on the second cast The next half hour was frustratingly quiet although I was getting knocks
I decided that my size 6 hook from a stripped down shrimp rig was perhaps to big for the majority of fish in the pond but it was all i had so I gave it a squeeze with the pliers and made it a size 10
And it worked as I was kept busy with these surprisingly feisty little fish for the next two hours until I decided it was safe to hit the motorway and head home
Rudd and Roach were the catch of the day but there was hope of a Carp but the farmer thinks a Cormorant had them soon after they were put in... a thousand pounds worth
Sweetcorn was the bait although I did try some berries from a nearby Rowen tree but with no joy
Only small fish (Dan would love it ) but a great way to spend a Friday afternoon
By the way I still got stuck on the M6

Well engineered!
Float fishing is very theraputic - probably best AFTER tackling the M6.

The M6 can be Ruddy Hell, Ruddy heaven would appeal a lot more to me too.
