Brothers in Arms Day Two - Predators!
Tuesday Feb 11th 2014
The plan for day two was to travel light and keep mobile around the Fenland Dykes
seeking out Pike, Zander and Perch on lures
Many hours had slipped by as I switched trebles for weedless types, flattened barbs, and made up a variety of traces in anticipation of a predator Jeremy Wade would be chuffed with
A tour of The Fens around Pete's home revealed many spots that simply screamed Pike
Pete was in first in but it slipped the hook,
Then just as I was about to lift the rod for another cast of the lure an olive and cream Polaris swirled from beneath to snatch my French made "Fiish" weedless hollow belly soft lure from the rod tip at the very last second
We both lost fish but final scores in the net where three for Pete and two for me,
With my second the heaviest weighed at six and a half pounds
- and easily the prettiest I reckon
No Zander showed and our tactics didn't tempt the Perch but
as dusk and the temperature fell it had been a cracking day out,
time for a fire side warm,
a beer or two,
and a decision on where day three would find us
