A few days ago due to a mechanical break down at work i found myself with nowt better to do than get down the beach with my gear and have a day in the sun fishing The weather around the Wick area couldn't have been more different to what you guys have had, we've had glorious sunshine day after day
The Mark i fished is a Bass hotspot and is only accessible at low water because to get to it without a helicopter you have to traverse a narrow rocky ledge at the base of the cliffs but its well worth the trouble. The mark itself is a small narrow cove with rocks going out to sea like a wall either side and the shingle beach drops away steeply into very deep gin clear water.
I learnt of this place from a local fisherman ive befriended who absolutely on pain of death swore me to secrecy (even on this forum) which i duly promised him All i will say is its around The Dunbeath / Lybster area of N/E Scotland somewhere
The advice given to me was to float fish trying various depths with a Mackerel bait which i did After an hour or so without a bite i lengthened my trace to about 7 foot and about 5 minutes after my cast the float (a small panda pop bottle) went BANG just disappeared, the bit of slack line i had tightened and the rod tip flew downwards and the rod rest collapsed sideways so i lept into action, dropped the bait i was preparing and with my heart in my mouth and the adrenaline pumping i reeled in like ive never done before convinced i had a record breaker on the hook
Not the Quite the monster i thought it was but never the less its my first ever Bass
Hell of a job to photograph yourself with a non too happy spikey slippery wrigley fish doing its best to get away The little devil did manage to get me in the hand with the spike they have underneath
Fished for another couple of hours after this but had nothing so packed up and made the long walk back under the cliffs and along the rugged shore line.
When i got back round to the bay i set up with a flatty rig and fished for an hour but i think i'd used up all my luck by then. So i just took some more photos then went to the pub for "refreshments"
The path along the bottom of the cliffs is quite something too
All in all a good day in the sun

Its an amazing place and i love it up there except that its to far away - 549 miles to be exact ! The Bass have been showing up there earlier and earlier im told ! Could this be a result of global warming i wonder ? The seasons are definitely changing, things are not what they once were ! Think on
