I was planning on fishing from Lybster harbour by the light house over low last Saturday 15th which is a couple of villages along from Dunbeath where im staying as im told its very deep water there, but I changed my mind as soon as i got there !
Here's one for all you telegraph pole spotters.... I know your out there !
Remember this was low tide !
so I decided to take a few photos (on my phone so sorry about the poor quality) and then go to work instead but with all the rain we'd had over
night the site was totally washed out so instead of making a muddy mess i went to Wick for a bit of shopping.
By now it was high tide.
Wick harbour
Can you see the light house ?
How about now ?
The storm was reported to be the worst in living memory.
Several fishing boats in local harbours where sunk by being swamped or were simply lifted out of the water onto the quayside as the waves easily cleared the walls, only to be pushed back in by the next wave and again swamped by the next.
During the clean up operation on the Sunday there were reports of broken bodied dead seals being found on various beaches.
The houses on the front at Dunbeath and other villages were (not too surprisingly) flooded as the sea burst through the front doors and quite literally went out through the back !
The power of the sea and the force of nature !
