Boat Project Notbad 1 update two 8.7.12

The outside of the hull just needs a polish, but the inside is looking a bit tired and a makeover is under way. Earning my living with my brain it makes a nice change to get down and dirty messing with fibre glass and an angle grinder

Standing inside the potential for falling overboard felt a bit too high,
Off the shelf rails didn't seem to be available tall enough so I've fabricated my own

Putting the rod rest on might be getting a bit ahead of myself but at least I can sit in it
yard brush in hand and pretend I'm fishing !!

I have an old mate whoe's been working fibreglass for many years, he gave me a tip and it's a good one.
Instead of angle grinding back to the glass all you have to do is use a blow torch and a wire brush, obviously you need to take care in how much heat you apply, you just need enough for the wire brush to remove the surface coat. This method does away with all that glass dust and leaves the surface with individual strands of the mat showing, this makes a great key for the glassing you want to apply. Using this method my mate shortened a yorkshire cobble by 6 inches and glassed the old stern back in. He had to do it to comply with the under 7 meter rule. You would never have known it had been done and passed the MCA inspection with no problems.
This is handy to know if you intend glassing in the new floor barers.

thanks for the tip Dai,

I'm quite enjoying thinking through some engineering solutions but all tips are most gratefully received.
