Had both the Surfmaster 750 and the 850, the 750 seemed better balanced and might be the better size especially for a 10 year old, but frankly I found both reels disappointing, they cast well enough but the gears didn't last and is not like I even fish rough ground.

Thought either was to be had for less than £70 though.

Just to confuse things Penn also have one called the Surfblaster -which I know nothing about.

I use a pair of Salt XT fixed spools costing half what the Penns do, admittedly they aren't as pretty and have zero bling factor but they get a lot of use, have outlasted the Surfmasters, do the job just as well and if they fail I won't feel cheated.

I've got a Surfmaster 850 and I'm not impressed with it.
It's just about in a usable condition, but having paid a bit extra for it I was hoping for a nice bit of quality.
My experience with it is not good.

have a look in cashconvertors in rhyl they had a couple of daiwa emblems last week for £70 each both had spare spools fully loaded theyre in mint condition.

I had a couple for about 3 years, suited me oK, a lot of people dont seem to like them though, maybe I was lucky ?
