Just read this on the Daily Post site...........................

"Pier Pressure follows a year in the life of the 40ft wide, 700 ft long structure.

Once a pleasure palace on the sea, those glory days are long gone. Victoria Pier is now in desperate need of repair and restoration and the man who’s taken up that challenge is Steve Hunt who bought the pier five years ago.

Pier Pressure follows Steve as he sets about renovating the Art Deco pavilion and modernising some of the pier’s 1970s features. But as the year progresses, events take an unexpected twist and the its future looks more uncertain than ever.

The programme tracks Steve’s efforts to stave off bankruptcy, keep the building open for business and ensure the pier is still standing for future generations to enjoy.

Pier Pressure – screening tomorrow The Interchange, Abergele Road, Old Colwyn, 7pm. It will be broadcast on December 11, BBC 2 Wales and BBC 2W, 7.30pm"

Just watched it myself. An interesting documentary. Hope he gets to carry on with this huge undertaking.

I appreciate the council is in a difficult situation about the tax owed, but some way needs to be made to help people who take on such ventures. Perhaps all piers >100 year old & open to the public could be made rate free, or all rates collected used 100% on the restoration.

A pier in good condition is a definate assett to a seaside town.
Llandudno is a great example of this.

Lets hope something is done to save it.
