| The huskies refused to move from the fire side but I joined Tony and Mehmet for a Splash on the rocks happy hour over High in the face of an ice cold North Easterly before moving a couple of hundred yards West for another hour by the frozen strand line. Many thanks for the lug and golden maggots Tony! Chanced upon the castwatch staff car on the walk home. Mike, the answer is, no we didn't! |

Could have done with some of those Golden Maggots? ourselves At least you boatie types got some great pics. On the subject of golden maggots, hands up who remembers this reference to The Great Fishing Race TV programme of the 1970s -2 teams competing to catch as many species, ( fresh, sea, tropical or even garden pond as I recall it) in 72 (?) hours. There's a Sunny Rhyl challenge in there somewhere! (on a warmer day though) I've been trying to catch more than a fleeting reference to it on the internet, but can't get much more than a knock so far. |

Not familiar with the show, but sounds reminiscent of Tony's references to the Rhyl Specimen Groups Fishing marathons. Does sound like an interesting concept though. I've still got prizes left over from the Swazaid competition (remember that one!). Maybe a bit of fun for a summers day? |

I've still got prizes left over from the Swazaid competition (remember that one!). Maybe a bit of fun for a summers day? Great read Tony! http://www.sunnyrhyl.com/?p=655. Yes Mike I certainly do remember Swazaid and the guy (Nigel Worth Aged 70) I saw rowing from St Asaph to London for the charity (passed me early morning as I was on a mullet hunt - I thought he was poaching or something!) And not forgetting your Swazaid Charity match, another day on which only one fish got caught, be blowed if I can recall who caught it though Is Swazaid in the archives? |

Whatever happened to the winner, NotBadLad? I believe Notbadlad changed his name before the Inland Revenue caught up, but he sent me these notes, Nigel Worth, who turned 70 in 2007, built a boat and rowed 300 miles from north Wales to London. The boat, a skiff made of thin ply, fifteen feet long, but light enough for him to carry was called Wagtail. He left Pont Dafydd at St. Asaph in mid September and rowed to Rhyl where he spotted a Castwatch nutter trying to catch mullet; turning East along the coast then on to Chester. From there he travelled the canals to Oxford and then joined the Thames, arriving in London on the 11th October,
All the money raised went to assist the education and welfare of orphans in Swaziland. The charity SWAZAID was set up in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. he didn't file a catch report though And for Mr Lever -here's some more fishing prawn |
