TIGHT FITTING ROD SECTIONS Empty
PostSubject: TIGHT FITTING ROD SECTIONS    TIGHT FITTING ROD SECTIONS EmptyFri Aug 23, 2024 9:48 pm

I have just received my second rod for the beach, when trying to put the rod together the top section was very tight and wouldn't fit easy. So contacted my mate who used to repair rods and he said when he used to get rods like it he used to just get a soft pencil and rub the joint which goes into the other with it so I did it and it worked he was saying they are tight to allow ware over the years use . Thought it may help others who get a similar problem when purchasing new rods

One thing I try and remember to do with a view to getting a rod apart again is run a finger down the outside of my nose and then along the male section of the rod joint, the natural oil this applies is said to help.

I have used that idea a few times when fly fishing on dry flies to make my leader float when I forgot the muslin floatant ,then used a small pinch of mud rubbed along the leader to help sink the leader

Agree, tight fitting rod sections can be eased with soft pencil lead (graphite), when rubbed on the 'male' section generously and put together in a circular motion, spreading the 'graphite' evenly. Do not use oil or WD 40.
On another note, rod sections should NOT be tight on a new rod, this shows poor manufacturing - usually, cheaper, mass produced rods,
