Four days in Gibraltar with the wifes family including a days boat fishing..... What's not to like
My brother in law is an officer the Navy and knows Gib well so he became our guide and as he's also a keen sea angler he organised the fishing trip for myself and my father in law too The armed forces over there have a fishing club and they own their own boat
Our skipper on the day was Ollie, a chief petty officer who's served on subs so being on top of the sea must have been a bit of a novelty I should think
Our vessel for the day.....
Not a huge boat and not a depth charge in sight but there was plenty of room for the four of us
We had to stay quite close to the shore line as the sea was very choppy once we left the shelter of the bay but even so the crystal clear water was nice and deep so we went as far out as was comfortable and did long slow drifts back towards the harbour starting off with feathers till we had a few Maccy for bait then the others changed rigs to bait fish on the bottom but I decided to stay with the feathers and just added some bits of Mackerel and Squid to the hooks.
We were into fish for pretty much the whole drift before Ollie fired up the engines and took us round again We had Wrasse, Bream, smelt and another couple of species that no one knew the name of as well as a few Weevers but we didn't manage to catch anything bigger than the Mackerel unfortunately but the little fish kept us busy all the same and the Bream put up quite a fight too
This is one of the species we didn't know so if anyone can enlighten me
Don't know what the one below is either
At one point we thought we would be attacked by Spanish pirates but one of our powerful police boats chased him back into Spanish waters
Rule Britannia
The marina near our hotel was jam packed with Bream and Mullet but fishing here wasnt permitted
The four days soon went but it was a great little break and we'd done everything there was to do in that time as its only a small place so it was goodbye to the sunshine and hello to the start of winter, must get my Cod gear out
