PostSubject: How to beat daddy at his own game   Mon Jul 31, 2017 9:14 pm

Took my daughter, ellie, out fishing today. Thought I'd try something different for her and hopefully introduce her to a few new species. As she's only 5 i decided against rock hopping and went for the safer, fish from your car option of amlwch harbour. Armed with her pink rod and reel we cut down some shrimp rigs and just had 2 hooks each baited with small pieces of ragworm and fished down the side of the wall in the outer pen, a rock goby hotspot!
They didn't disappoint and her first 3 drops resulted in 3 rock gobys while i managed a couple of small pouting and a corkwing wr

After a little while and some more little pouting ellie was 6-4 in the lead and a pouting, poor cod double brought me level

This is when she went storming ahead. 3 drops resulted in 3 decent ballans and me stood there trying to figure out why i couldn't even get a bite with our lines about 12 inches apart

Finally i was back into the fish with a couple of small pollock and we both had a few more pouting and poor cod

Ellie finished the day as she started, by showing me up some more, catching a ever silver eel

After the phot the fish was kind enough to wrap itself up in the rig meaning i had to cut it free. Rather than setting up again we called it a day.

Final scores were ellie - rock goby, pouting, poor cod, ballan wrasse and silver eel for 5 species, all new ones for her and a total of 13 fish. Myself - pouting, poor cod, pollock and corkwing wrasse for 4 species and 10 fish. She also had the biggest....the 4 biggest in fact. Yet again you teach the kids how to fish and then watch as they show you how its done. She's loving it and hopefully will be into plenty more before the summer holidays are over too
