After Dave's failed tope trip on Saturday yesterday was my turn me and 3 work mate's booked an 8hr trip with si sailing at 2pm just for tope.
The plan was to catch a load of mackerel for bait then steam off to simon's tope mark but it did't go to plan at first with the first 2 mark's turning up one gurnard for me I had everything crossed hoping si found the mackerel.
3rd time lucky and si found the mackerel big time with full strings coming out everywhere (I hate mackerel fishing ) but I had to do it this time
Once we had anchored up the big bait went on The first hour or so just dogfish and huss was caught then another bloke on the boat caught the first tope of the day (sorry no pic)
Simon did a load of rubby dubby that he put down with his anchor to bring the tope in
It seemed to do the trick with 2 tope being caught and a few missed run's
In between all the tope action I caught a dab
Sadly I did't catch a tope ether but we had a laugh and still caught plenty of mackerel , whiting , dabs , dogfish , huss , 3 tope , gurnard and weevers
We got back in at 10:15ish and the harbour bridge looked stunning
Thanks si for another great trip

Lucky there were some decent anglers aboard so you could see what a Tope looks like!
Does Dave know somebody had knicked his spot lurking outside the bog?
Good report though, kept me entertained for 5 minutes

Shame you blanked on the Tope Steve, but it looks like you had a great day out. I've got the bottom drawer of my freezer full of fish that I am going to use for chum. I wonder some times if the Tope might be chasing the mackerel shoal,so dropping a live Joey back in might get a result.Especially if there is a chum bag down to start with.

Looks a great day out, On Saturday fishing the high tide just outside the harbour I got 1 tope, I only brought 3 Mackerel from my freezer with me as I convinced myself I would catch plenty of live Mackerel, with 2 sets of feathers I was only picking up the odd whiting, Dog fish took my other 2 mackerel. In the 4 hours my total catch was 1Tope, 3 Whiting, 5 Dog Fish and 2 weavers, no Mackerel. A nice sunny day and flat. Good Times.
