The harbour itself you can fish anywhere you want except off any pontoons as they're private to the harbour users. For flounders you're best at the end of the quay wall and onto the beach fishing the channel on the bend where its narrowest. Start about 3 and a half hours before high water and its better on a small tide. If the tide gets too much there you can go by the slipway next to the cafe/bike shop or further up by the blue bridge but watch out for jet skiers wanting to launch. For mullet same time and same place but you only get a small window as they pass through. Once the tide is in you're best bet would probably be up by the railway bridge. There are gardens on the kinmel bay side so access might not be possible but you'll have no problem from the rhyl side. I'm not certain where the cut off point is but i think once you get the other side of the railway bridge its classed as fresh water and you need a rod license. Someome else might be able to confirm that one

I looked into it when i used to run the junior matches and Simon is correct that a freshwater license is needed above the railway bridge.

It could be worth it if you are after mullet though as they tend to congregate in the pools here.

To access, you can park in the carpark near the rspca building down Marsh Road and walk through the kissing gate to the cob.

You will see the mullet all the way along the back of the cycle track to where the cut drains into the river, when they are in.

Thanks Gents, I already have my trout/course rod licence, so hope that would be ok for the pools above the railway bridge??

What I was more concerned about is there public access or is that area controlled by a local fishing club ?

No its open to anyone and free parking at the harbour too. The only places you can't access are rhyl yatch club or any pontoons

Tried for the Mullet up by the railway bridge once, blooming great rat ran out from the arches and nicked a slice of my bread!
I think if you were fishing up there and clearly after Mullet with bread or say lugworm for flatties you'd be OK even if you met a jobsworth but  if you tried for them on the fly then your tactics could be interpreted as after sea trout/ salmon which might be an issue.
