| Saw a sad bit of news on the net, wales have initiated a new system. Joe Bloggs can now send dashcam footage in to the council/police,and they will review it and could possibly take you to court and fine you. Seems a bit open to cranks sending in webcam footage. If you contest it,and lose ,it could cost a few hundred £'s over the fine. If you are scared of the extra expense of contesting it,you just have to bite the bullet and pay the fine. They are on a win win situation. I always drive to the rules of the road, but if some crank sends footage to the police,it will leave me open to paying the fine or contesting it. Coming to Wales is starting to feel like driving thro' a minefield. |

| It is not just a Wales thing. Cheshire police now doing the same, plus a few other forces I think.
On the plus side, I am sure most of us have encountered the unbelievably bad/dangerous actions of other road users. It has long been possible to submit such footage. This just gives a simpler way of doing it for those that want to.

| I think its a good idea On the M6 I've nearly been wiped out several times by lunatics who don't look in their mirrors or don't check their blind spots Might get a dash cam myself What really annoys me is people who drive slower than the lorrys, they cause tail backs which leads to aggravated drivers which leads to accidents AAARGH |

| Then there are the genuine mistakes made driving unknown territory, like finding yourself in the wrong lane on a roundabout or intersection |

| I can't say I disagree with the idea,in theory and on paper it looks a good idea. Let's hope it doesn't get out of hand and get used as a cash cow. If it's completely in the hands of the Police it would be fine, trouble is if the councils use it to make up for council cuts it could end up a nightmare. I don't think the money they take for the fines should go into the council coffers. |

| Lived around here a good few years now but didn't know about the sounding the horn in the Pen y Clip tunnel until the other week, thought I'd done something wrong when I heard the horn, nearly hit the wall trying to work out what!
And don't get me started on mini roundabouts... |

And don't get me started on mini roundabouts... I've been sounding my horn in the tunnels since I was 18,still do. We came thro with 3 cars and two boats going to Beaumaris, all blasting away, made quite a racket |

| The details of the Cheshire dashcam is here https://www.cheshire.police.uk/advice-and-support/roads-and-vehicle-safety/submit-dashcam-footage
My reading of all of this is that it is just in response to public demand, not to raise revenue.
If you submit footage you need to make sure you are also squeaky clean (including not using a handheld mobile phone to take it whilst you are driving!), and be prepared to be called to court as a witness if needed. |
